What is simple and essential about us as parents?
Parenting expectations have increased to an almost paralysing place of perfection that is largely unattainable. It is a noisy and often contradictory world out there for parents and from countless parenting advice books to the overwhelming announcements that herald “a new childrearing study finds …!” There are so many voices that call for us to be the perfect parent….right now…while most of us are striving to grow into being a “good enough” parent for our children. How do we learn and grow as parents, as our child(ren) continue to learn and grow each day?
Amidst all the buzzing demands on modern parenting, we can do one thing right (and most of us do it well, though none of us perfectly all the time). It is the simple, ordinary, but truly meaningful ways we interact with our children in those small, unglamorous, everyday moments.
In this exciting and alive presentation Dr. Junlei Li connects developmental science, both old and new, with the authentic, lived human experiences of caring for children (especially in difficult circumstances). Most of all, he aspires to remind all of us about what we already do well, what we can get right, and what we must keep doing to offer our children the one thing that matters most!
