Make your own hummus & pita chips
Hummus is one of the healthiest dips that you can make. High in protein and fiber it will help you to feel fuller for longer. Chickpeas are said to help decrease cholesterol and your cancer risk, and garlic is full of antioxidants. This list goes on.
To say that I love hummus is an understatement. For my 10 year work anniversary when asked what I wanted, I said a hummus cake. (I was only half joking) At the celebration my boss happily supplied me with my own container of hummus with a candle and everyone else has regular cake.
Making hummus very easy and serving it with home made pita chips makes the perfect pairing.
Hummus ingredients
1 can of chick peas – drained and rinsed
2 tsp of tahini
2 tsp of olive oil
2 cloves of garlic- minced
1 med lemon cut in half and juiced
1/4 tsp of sea salt
Dash of Garlic Salt
Directions
Add all ingredients into a food processor and process until smooth
Taste and add extra lemon/garlic/salt as needed
If the hummus looks dry add in a little bit more olive oil
Once finished put into dish and put in refrigerator and start the Pita Chips.
Making Pita Chips
(We use this recipe to make our own pitas)
Turn oven to 400 degrees
Cut each pita into 8 triangles
Coat with olive oil, Greek seasoning and garlic salt
Toss in a bowl until coated
Bake in oven for 7 minutes or until browned
Once Pita chips are cool they are ready to be served with the hummus. Refrigerated, hummus will last about a week. Although I am sure it will be gone long before then.
