First of all, I am sure that you are wondering what exactly these are for? Story stones can be used a few ways, but what most people use them for is to aid in telling stories with children. Hence the name story stones.
How To Use Story Stones
How we use them is we put them all in a container and one person picks the first stone. The picture that they pick is what they start telling the story about. When it’s the next persons turn they pick another stone and continue on with the story. The story goes on until the stones run out. It’s pretty easy, right?
Make Your Own Story Stones
It’s even easier to make story stones yourself. All you need are some rocks, pictures or stickers to put on the rocks, and mod podge to attach the pictures and to seal the top of the picture as well.
After looking for stones to purchase I either found ones that were too small or way too big so we took a walk and went rock hunting. After finding a good amount we went home and washed them.
I used stickers that I purchased from Michaels for $1/book but pictures cut out from magazines, fabric, and even painting your own pictures on the rock would work as well. After placing all of the stickers on the rocks I put a coat of Mod Podge over top to seal and prevent the stickers from peeling. After letting them dry for 24 hours they were good to use!
The story stones have provided countless hours of entertainment for the kids. We used them on our travels to Kelowna, we have taken them camping, and we have used them at home. The stories are funny and silly and the creativity is endless.
