If I had to pick one gift that I always give to new parents, baby gates would be it!

baby gates

Having 3 kids over the span of almost 7 years, we have had our share of baby gates. One of the gifts that I received at my baby shower with my first baby happened to be a baby gate, and it is by far one item that I have used the most for child proofing!

Different baby gates

From pressure mounted, hardware mounted, free standing, to playards, there are different baby gates to choose from depending on your needs and the area where you are trying to keep your little one in or out of. Not sure where to start? This post on which gates work best in different areas of the home is a great read!

A rule of thumb is to use pressure mounted gates in between rooms, and hardware mounted gates for the top and bottom of the stairs! You can read about 5 baby gates that are best used at the top of the stairs here

Many popular companies make great quality baby gates. Some specialise in certain types of gates such as the KidKusion Driveway Gate, which I think is pretty awesome! Every brand has their unique design, colour, and functionality.

Depending on your budget the cost of baby gates ranges from as low as $15/gate up to $150/gate. Most options, however, are in the middle making this a gift that is perfect for a few people to buy together if need be.

Baby gates would have been an awesome baby gift since we have so many stairs in our house! Also wish we had gotten more stuff for an older baby instead of so much 0-3 month things.

Baby gates would have been grand, but something else, clothing that were size 9 months and up, don’t have very many outfits in that size

I wish I’d have received a bottle sterilizer as a gift for my first child. I was a single mom at 15 and burnt myself pretty badly trying to sterilize bottles in the middle of the night.
