It’s no secret that I am a person that looks for affordable accommodations when we are traveling. Something that fits my family’s needs and doesn’t sacrifice quality for more affordable prices. It’s a balance that sometimes is tough to attain.
So what am I talking about? I am talking about University Conference Services and/or University Residences. Mostly available in the summer months from mid-May to mid-August anytime that we travel to Kelowna we stay at the UBC Okanagan Campus and it’s been a great way to save some money.
There are some things, however, that can be different than staying in a regular hotel. It really depends on what you’re looking for in your accommodations and these are some things for you to consider.
- A lot do not offer room service or have onsite restaurants
- Room cleaning is done every couple of days or maybe not at all (during your stay). It really depends on your length of stay and this also means you are responsible for your bed being made every day and ensuring that your place is tidy
- Lot’s of places have kitchens and laundry (a big win for me) but some are dorm room settings, just like university students stay in. It really depends on how much or little you are willing to potentially sacrifice.
- Sometimes you’re not located close to big attractions but you are close to public transit!!
Locations for University Conference Services and Residences Accommodations
There are many campuses around Canada and the United States (and probably beyond) that offer these types of accommodations. A quick search brought me to these places, and there was more.
Really it’s all about what you are looking for accommodations wise. I can tell you that we have never regretted any of our stays and anyone that I know that also does this has had a great experience every time.
Have I convinced you yet? Or have you already tried out this type of accommodations? If so, how did you like it?
