This Sunday is Free Admission Day in Edmonton, and there definitely isn’t a lack of things to do with that’s for sure!
When + where to go on Free Admission Day
Free Admission Day at City of Edmonton Attractions
Edmonton Valley Zoo – 10am-5pm
Take a ride on the zip line on the adventure bus, take in a magic show, listen to some music, and learn about the endangered animals at the zoo
Fort Edmonton Park – TBA
Get transported back in time and see how things were done starting in 1846. Admission is free, but there is a nominal cost for tickets for the Midway rides/games. Additionally, the Pony Rides and Steam Train will not be running on Free Admission Day.
**Half day admission for Fort Edmonton Park is the 23rd and the midway is included.
John Walter Museum – 1-4pm
Make an autumn-themed craft, taste some homemade jam, learn about the history of beekeeping in Alberta, and learn about pickling.
John Janzen Nature Centre – 10am-5pm
Play with sidewalk chalk, make your own nature sun catchers, go on a guided trail walk, and check out the many information booths.
Muttart Conservatory – 10am-5pm
Make a small eco-friendly pot from newspaper and plant some nasturtium plant seed, view wonderful displays in the Oasis of Pyramids, and see what the Edmonton Public Library is doing this year and sign up for a card. There will also be entertainment for those waiting in line to get in!
Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre – 10am-4pm
Visit the telephone museum, play games, work on puzzles, listen to stories and so much more.
Free Admission Day Recreation Centres
Clearview Community Recreation Centre – 10am-6pm
Run around in the indoor playground, go for a facility tour, play a game of soccer on the outdoor turf, participate in 6 different drop-in fitness classes.
Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre – 10am-6pm
Get a workout in at fitness center, and join the Zumba party in the gym 10am-11:30 am
Mill Woods Community Recreation Centre – 10am-6pm
Enjoy the wave pool, waterslide, and diving boards at public swim, take the kids to play at the indoor playground and book a game of racquetball or squash. There are also drop-in fitness classes and an aquatic class too!
Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre – 10am-6pm
Float down the lazy river during public swim, take advantage of the open fitness center and track, check out the indoor playground, go skating (4:45-5:45) and check out the 7 drop-in fitness classes.
St Francis Xavier Sports Centre – All Day
Try out a wide range of different sports activities in the gyms throughout the day or do a lap around the track!
Free Admission Day at the YMCA
Castle Downs Family YMCA – 7am-9pm
Check out the free public swim, go to the workout centre, and try one of the group fitness classes.
Don Wheaton Family YMCA – 7am-9pm
Try on of the group fitness classes, check out the indoor playground, free public swim and more.
Jamie Platz Family YMCA – 7am-9pm
Check out the family zone, go for a swim, and try out 4 different group fitness classes
William Lutsky Family YMCA – 7am-9pm
Go for a swim with the family, check out the family and kid zone, get a workout in at the workout centre, and try out one of the 3 group fitness classes.
*All group classes can only take so many people, make sure you get there early to get a spot
Arenas
- Callingwood Twin Arenas – 12:15pm-1:15pm
- Kenilworth Arena – 12:45pm-1:45pm
- Londonderry Arena – 4pm-5pm
- Terwilliger Arena – 4:45pm-5:45pm
