The first time that we saw the movie Ferdinand was when we were on a family trip to Calgary. After a day full of sightseeing and swimming we needed to relax. Ferdinand just happened to be the only movie that all 3 of the kids agreed on.
Bull-ieve in yourself
We’ve been very open with our kids that looks alone do not determine who the person is and that it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Ferdinand is an “un-bull-ievable” bull that wants a life that doesn’t involve bullfighting. As he tries to make his way back home, with his group of unlikely friends, he knows that what’s important is being himself. Along the way, he treats whoever he meets with love, kindness and respect even as he’s trying to prove that even though he looks like a bull that’s not who he is on the inside.
It really is the perfect message for everyone young and old and teaches everyone to stay true and bull-ieve in yourself.
Spreading kindness one rock at a time
The kids and I have been working on a project to spread inspirational and kind messages around our community to bring happiness to people when they least expect it.
When we started to decorate out Kindness Rocks, I asked the kids what kind of things they’d want to read if they found a rock. Both of them chose messages like “You’re Beautiful”, “Be Happy”, “Love”, and other kind messages.
From park benches, the local library, planters in the mall, to bus stops and more we’ve been spreading them around our community and are inviting you to do the same!
Creating kindness rocks is fun and easy for the whole family and requires the following supplies:
- Rocks with a smooth surface
- Non-toxic acrylic paint or spray paint
- Paintbrushes
- Fine tip oil-based pens
- Non-toxic sealant (Mod Podge or clear acrylic spray)
Directions:
- Paint your rock with a light coloured paint and let dry
- Using your oil based pens, create inspirations messages of your own or get some inspiration from the ones above
- Let dry overnight and seal using the non-toxic sealant
We can’t wait to see what your kindness rocks look like and when you’ve spread your kindness rocks around your community make sure you share what you’re doing on social media using hashtags #FerdinandKindnessRocks #TheKindnessRocksProject #MakeItWithMichaels
