This weekend Alberta Ave will turn into a winter wonderland, which is known to many as the Deep Freeze Festival. With a weather forecast that is perfect for a winter festival, the festival takes place on Alberta Ave and there are so many things that kids will love! Here are a few suggestions, and even better most of it is free!
The NEW Giant Ice Slide
This year there’s a new addition to the Deep Freeze Festival and it’s in the form of a giant ice slide! You can find it at 118 Avenue at 92 Street right by the ice carvings.
Cabane à Sucre
Is there anything more Canadian than maple syrup that’s frozen on a stick? Make sure you find that booth to try some! (It’s free!!!)
Roving Entertainment & Activities
Throughout the festival, there will be many roving entertainers which include stiltwalkers, Emily the Elf, and The Trollsons. While you’re walking around you can stop off at other activities such as Axe throwing, check out the log sawing competitions, watch the hockey tournaments, visit the Jasper National Park kiosk and more!!
Horse & Wagon Rides
On both days from 12:00pm-5: 45 pm you can go on a horse & wagon ride. Catch it on 92 St between 118 & 119 Ave
Live Entertainment & Performances
Throughout the festival, there will many cultural performances, live bands, presentation and more taking place indoors at Carrot Community Coffeehouse, Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, and inside the community league as well as outdoors along Alberta Ave.
Deep Freezer Races
The Deep Freezer races are a Deep Freeze Festival tradition. Cheer on the teams that have registered for the Deep Freezer races on Saturday, 12:00 pm 8:00 pm & Sunday, 12:00 pm – 6:00pm
Bring your sleds to Alberta Avenue Park and take part in some sledding and other family fun! This activity will run on Saturday, 12:00 pm- 5:00 pm and Sunday, 12:00 pm- 6:00 pm
What makes a winter wonderland even more magical? Fireworks! Make sure you catch them on Saturday at 6:00 pm at Alberta Avenue Park (92 St & 118 Ave)
Tom Fool’s Ice Kingdom
Here is where you will find the kids ice slide (yes there are 2 this year) and other outdoor winter games such as jam can curling, frozen x’s and o’s, Ice Cronkle (like curing), and other fun activities. While your there you can purchase tickets for the hot dog and marshmallow roast.
