This weekend (August 17th & 18th) is Alberta Open Farm Days, and it’s the perfect way to explore farms outside of the city, see where your food comes from, and of course visit with some of the cutest farm animals.
In and around Edmonton there are several places for you to explore with the family which include:
- Free admission to Prarie Gardens
- Visiting some Alpaca’s at Sunnyhill Alpacas
- Learning about Bees at Good Morning Honey
- Northlands Urban Farm
- Interacting and brushing mini ponies at Tack N Things
- Learn about the growing process of growing mushrooms at Gruger Family Fungi
- So much more!
Other Important Details
Don’t forget to grab some cash before you head out to explore some of these awesome places because there will also be many opportunities for you to purchase fresh food and local wares from the farms. If you’re planning to visit any locations where beverages are sold you can also try the new Open Farm Days beer – Haskollak Berry Cream Ale (which is delicious BTW).
Because you’re visiting working farms it’s also important to dress for it, which means don’t forget to wear proper shoes (or even rubber boots) and of course mosquito repellent.
There’s Also A Planning Tool
Not sure yet which farms you want to visit? That’s no problem! On the Alberta Open Farm Days website, there is an awesome tool that can help you plan your days!
Not only can you search for places to visit but you can also plan your trip so that you’re making the most out of your days (some farms are open both Saturday and Sunday and others are open only one of the days) and picking certain activities that you’re more interested in (animals, food, u-pick, and sampling just to name a few).
