The clothing guarantee for kids that grow too fast
The other day I purchased Carter pair of size 6 jeans!! He has grown 2 sizes since April and I can only anticipate more “growing like a weed” days ahead of me. (I fear for my grocery bill in the teenage years). He is growing so fast that sometimes clothes aren’t worn as much as they could be so I look for things on sale and clearance – I mean I am always on the lookout but I am way more dilligent when shopping for Carter. BUT then guess what happens – the item wears out before Carter grows out of it. It’s is maddening and I am pretty sure I could start a small retirement savings plan with the amount of money spent in these situations. And shoes – DO NOT get me started on shoes!!
With Carter going to school this year I was excited to learn about the Sears KidVantage Grow Out Guarantee which allows you to exchange clothing purchased from Sears for the next size up, eliminating the need to buy the next size up AND saving you money. The program applies to the 2015/2016 school year which is Sept 8th – June 30th and can be used for clothing purchases made July 15th – June 1st online, through the catalog, and in store. The sizes covered are size 4-16 for girls and sizes 4-18 for boys.
Another program that Sears offers is the Life Time Wear Out Warranty. This covers children’s clothing and footwear (footwear!!!!!!) as long as a child within the family continues to wear the size (see how is says a child within the family…that’s awesome) This covers sizes infant to size 18 in clothing and up to childrens size 6 on foot wear and it also includes pajamas. Proof of purchase is required.
Another store that offers a guarantee on their kids clothes and shoes is Walmart. They guarantee clothing sizes 0-16 and childrens footwear will not wear out before the child that it was purchased for outgrows it. Proof of purchase is required.

And lastly because I am partial to it – consignment (shameless plug I own Bun in the Oven Consignment) and I’ve Outgrown is Sales! I have found some awesome pieces for all of my children for prices that I can live with if they grow out of the item before it wears out. The only problem with this is that clothing in bigger children’s sizes is few and far between because the child wears out the clothing before it can be consigned.
And on that note.. If you need me, I will be shopping for Carter’s school clothes.

Wow, those guarantee programs are awesome! I wish I could find something like that here in Australia 🙂

Have you tried the Sears Kidvantage program? I did a few years ago and it was a hassle. At that time they would only exchange the exact same item. So if they didn’t carry the item anymore or if they didn’t have a size you needed they wouldn’t do it. I tried with dresses, shorts, etc. after the 4th time I gave up. I bought on clearance, and kept the clothes nice and resold for either what I paid or more, after 2 kids wore the clothes. I never did try Walmart though.

I haven’t done the kids clothes for school one because it’s new, but I have with the other. I had to be persistent because the cashier wasn’t trying too hard. The website says the exact same item or if not a available something similar. Hopefully, they stay true to their word.

Great resource for parents! I had no clue Walmart had shoe guarantees, I bought a pair last month and the strap broke right off. Thanks to this I now know I can bring them back!

What an awesome guarantee! Kids just grow entirely too fast. My husband and I always joke that Mason wakes up a few inches taller. It certainly feels that way!
