DIY Piñata
A couple of weeks ago it was my nieces birthday and I knew that it was the perfect time to work on DIY Piñata project. The theme of the birthday was Paw Patrol so a dog bone shape accented with Paw Patrol pictures was the perfect choice.
Supplies needed for the DIY Piñata
- Poster board cut out into bone shape x2 (2 for $1 at Dollarama)
- Cardboard cut out to tape along edges and keep the 2 sides together. (I used a cardboard box that I had around the house)
- Wire hanger or some string to hang the Piñata
- A roll of masking tape to tape the edges and sides.
- Tissue paper to decorate the Piñata
- Glue stick to tape on the tissue paper
- Paw Patrol pictures (found through Pinterest)
DIY Piñata steps
1/2 – Tape edging (cardboard) around the shape of the Piñata
3/4 – Add the the hanger or string to hang the Piñata (I reinforced it with another piece of cardboard)
5 – Add the other side of poster board and tape the edges
6 – Cut tissue paper in strips and fray the edges
7 – Decorate the Piñata in the pattern that you desire. (To help guide you, you can outline the areas with a pencil where each colour goes)
*You have to work from the bottom up when gluing the tissue paper to achieve layers*
This DIY Piñata was fun and easy to make. It was also made for a fraction of the price of a store bought one ($10 with candy included). I already have plans to make another DIY Piñata for Carter & Sophie’s birthday! Maybe this time we’ll paper mache it? 😉
