When you live in a house with hardwood and laminate flooring the floors can get a little cool at times as well as slippery. Finley has just started walking and Carter & Sophie are known to run around our kitchen and living room.
I always encourage the kids to wear socks and ones with grips on the bottoms are the best. The problem however, is actually finding socks with grips. The ones in Finn’s size can be found but not always, for Carter & Sophie grips on the bottom of their socks are almost near impossible to find and sometimes they are slipping more than the newly walking baby!
I do however have a solution to this though and it’s a cheap and easy fix. I no longer need to spend my time scouring the isles for socks with grips on the bottoms because I’m making no slip socks myself and you can too!
What you need for no slip socks
- Socks
- Card stock or cardboard cut to fit into the foot of the sock
- Puffy paint – I purchased from Walmart (5 for $8) but only out of convenience. Can be purchased from Michaels and with a coupon!!
Directions
- Put card stock into foot of socks to create a flat surface. I honestly just used a back of a Purolator envelope and eye balled the size. Keep it in the sock until the paint is dries
- Draw design on bottom of socks with puffy paint. You can be creative with this, but the bigger the design the more cracking the paint will do. I chose to just do dots on the bottom of the socks but swirls or squiggles are cute too
- Let dry for at least 12 hours, maybe more depending how much paint you have used
- Once dried they are ready to be worn.
Puffy paint is machine washable and lasts a long time. You definitely are not limited to just doing this on kids socks! On the bottom of kids tights, home made slippers, or even for someone who doesn’t want to go barefoot during a yoga class. Even someone who has stairs with hard wood or laminate could make some for everyone in the house or for guests. These DIY no slip socks are definitely a game changer for me!
