This exploding baggie experiment is a fun way to engage kids of all ages this summer. Using simple ingredients in your home this will make for a fun afternoon watching the colours bubble and react together.
Exploding Baggie Ingredients
- Baggies
- Kleenex or toilet paper (it’s thinner and dissolves easier than napkins)
- Vinegar – 1/2 cup
- Water – 1/4 cup
- Baking Soda – 4 tablespoons
- Food Colouring – We picked the fluorescent drops
Assembling your Exploding Baggie
- Mix water, vinegar, and food colouring in the baggies
- Put the baking soda into your kleenex or toilet paper and wrap up – make one for each baggie that you plan on doing
- Find a place to set up your exploding baggie experiment
- Place wrapped baking soda in the baggie and seal quickly
- Watch the bag fill up with the vinegar and watch what happens
Clean-up is easy, we put the baggies and kleenex in the garbage and sprayed the cement off! The kids are already asking to make these again, so I see this as a favourite activity this summer.
