We had a chance to check out the Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse yesterday. A kid-friendly cafe and playhouse area is definitely something that has been needed in the West End. While the cafe has been open for a bit now, the playhouse side will be open on November 1st making it one of your soon to be favourite places (if it’s not already)!
Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse In West Edmonton
Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse is located in West Edmonton at 14240-85 Avenue. The hours of operation are:
- Monday – Friday 7:00am – 6:00pm (playhouse opens at 9am)
- Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Sunday 9:00am – 5:00pm
Sweet Pea Playhouse
The Playhouse side features many themed playhouses which include a grocery market, a fire hall, a doctors office and a diner. It’s the perfect place for kids to explore and get lost in imaginative play.
When you first walk in you will find a small area for babies to the left. There are many age appropriate toys, toys, a jumperoo, and bouncy chair.
Further, into the back, there is also space for kids to unleash their creativity. Whether it’s on the chalkboard or through the other colouring supplies that are available, it’s just another one of the things that kids will love about the Playhouse area.
While the play area does not allow food or drink, there are tables in the back for just that! Plus it’s the perfect place to enjoy a latte and a treat while your kids explore.
How Booking For The Playhouse Area Works
The playhouse area is open from 9am-6pm, and a maximum of 15 kids are allowed in the area at a time to ensure that there isn’t overcrowding and enough room for kids to fully enjoy the area.
Reservations are required for the 1-hour time slots, with a half hour in between each hour for staff to clean and put toys back where they belong. If you book for 2 hours you can stay during the half hour cleaning and the staff will work around you.
The idea behind the specific play times and also scheduled cleaning throughout the day is to ensure that regardless of what time you have booked to come in you’re experience is the same and toys are in their designated playhouses. Plus, how great is it that they will also be cleaning the toys several times throughout the day! With cold and flu season in full swing, this is like a parents dream.
Admission prices for Sweet Pea Playhouse are as follows:
- Under 1 – free
- 1-3yrs – $7.95/hr
- 4yrs and up – $9.95/hr
Sweet Pea Cafe
The menu at Sweet Pea Cafe definitely won’t disappoint you or your little ones! Using plant-based recipes, the sweet and savoury menu options of smoothies, baked goods, wraps and more are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
Finn had a chance to try their grilled cheeze (and I took a few nibbles as well). As a family that doesn’t eat plant-based anything….the grilled cheeze tasted and looked the same as what we would eat at home, and Finn didn’t know the difference! We also had a chance to try some cookies and their famous cinnamon buns and let me tell you, they’re delicious.
For the little ones the Sweet Pea 6 Pack (seen below) offers healthy favourites served in a muffin tray to ensure no food touches (toddlers amitright?!) Check out the full menu for Sweet Pea Cafe here.
