I Bought Groceries From The Flashfood App, Here’s How It Works

Have you heard about the new Flashfood app? If you haven’t it’s an app that sells food that is close to its expiry date at a discounted rate of up to 50% from Loblaws stores (Superstore). Aimed at reducing the food that goes into the landfill with stores still being able to recoup some of their costs, I knew I had to check it out for myself because it intrigued me so much.

How The Flashfood App Works

Downloading the app easy, and it’s available to download from both Apple and GooglePlay. Once you’ve downloaded the app it will show you each location and what is being sold.

Is The Flashfood App Available Near Me?

In Alberta, there are 31 locations which are located in Fort McMurray, Grande Prarie, Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Red Deer and Calgary. The app, however, is available across Canada.

Don’t see anything on the map close to you? There is even an option to suggest locations.

How Pick-Up Works

Your order is available almost immediately however if you can’t pick up on the day of it will be kept until the food is past its expiry date. If you don’t pick up your food by then I would assume refunds won’t be considered.

It’s not like other ordering online grocery options because you’ll have to go into the store to get your order yourself from the fridge in the “Flashfood zone”. Make sure you bring some reusable bags!

Once you have your items check-in with customer service to have your order approved and you’re good to go.

What I Ordered & How It Went

For my order this time I purchased grapes, steak, and milk and while I was nervous about this whole process it was actually quite easy.

I’ve had to pick a couple of grapes off to not use, the rest have been crisp and tasty. The steak made for a delicious dinner and because we go through milk SO FAST in this house, buying milk that is 6 days from expiry is a non-issue.

If you do find a problem with your food you can email support@flashfood.com or access the support link in the profile on the app. If it’s a refund you’re requesting, you will need to include the item name and the reason for the refund.

All in all, I will definitely shop from this app again, and hopefully, I’ve given you a reason to try it out for yourself too!
