We recently hosted a Science themed party with Mad Science of Northern Alberta and it was so much fun.
Fun For All Ages With Mad Science
Mad Science was founded by two brothers, Ariel and Ron Shlien over 30 years ago. What started in Quebec as a local company that offered hands-on science experiments they grew to 86 locations by 2000. Since then Mad Science has been the world’s leader in science education for children in over 20 countries and 150 franchise locations and most recently opening in Edmonton.
What Programs Does Mad Science Offer?
There are many programs that are offered by Mad Science which includes:
- Birthday parties
- After school programs
- Workshops
- Camps
- Special events

Programs are available for kids 3-12 years and offer hands-on experiences while teaching kids about science at the same time. There are many other activities that are offered including rocket launching (seasonal), using bubbles with dry ice, a Van der Graaf Generator Show, tornadoes, and even indoor fireworks!
Other activities and add-ons are available for purchase and include cotton candy making, goody bags, invites for your party, and more.
With ages ranging from 4-9 years old at the Halloween party, many of the activities were pretty good at holding the majority of the kid’s attention. For over an hour the kids learned about being able to capture their shadows, fitting an egg into a beaker using heat, how to make a ping pong ball float in the air with a hairdryer, dry ice, and of course making slime.
It’s important to add that Mad Science needs access to water and electricity for set-up, activities, and clean-up. They will also need a folding table or something similar to set up.
The Goody Bags
As mentioned above, Goody Bags can be provided for an added fee – to be honest, I LOVE Goody Bags but I am normally wary of the ones that can be provided. This one, however, my kids are STILL playing with stuff that came in with it, and more importantly, they haven’t broken yet. That’s money well spent if you’re into the Goody Bag stuff too!
My Takeaway
All of the activities were fun, but the slime making and dry ice were by far the most favourite for all of the kids. I would also love to host a Mad Science party when we could have it outside because putting bubbles in the dry ice and a rocket launch sound like so much fun!
