How many campfire songs do you remember from when you were younger?
Growing up I went to camp every summer, sometimes I was away from home for 2 weeks! (unheard these days). The days were spent swimming in the lake, crafting, dancing (it was through my Ukrainian Dance hall) and the evenings were spent around the campfire singing tons of campfire songs.
This past weekend when we were camping with family all of the kids were singing songs around their own ‘make believe’ campfire. This got me to thinking that unless I teach my kids the songs that I grew up knowing, they probably won’t learn them at all..or at least until they’re older.
We still have a few weeks left of summer and this weekend we are embarking on a 4th annual moms group camping weekend. With a total of 13 kids this weekend and a few more weekends there will definitely be some time for campfire songs!
