8 of the best places to drive for water fun with kids within 2 hours from Edmonton

Great summer days for us mean fun in the sun and places to splash around! Lucky for us there are at least 8 places within 2 hours from Edmonton to go and have some water fun! So whether it’s a day trip or longer, this is the list to keep on hand! 

10 of the best places to drive for water fun with kids

Discover Canyon – Open within the first couple of weeks in June, Discovery Canyon is located in Red Deer, AB. Bring your own tube or rent one for $5, with a $15 deposit! Hours of operation are Monday to Sunday, 9am – 9pm. Perfect for children of all ages, the water is never deeper than 18″ on an inflatable tube. 

Whitecourt Rotary Park – The River Slides are 2 hours from Edmonton and are open starting May long weekend daily from 10am – 9pm. Don’t forget to bring your own tube as there aren’t any on site to rent. There is also a Splash Park right beside the River Slides along with a large playground close by too.

Sylvan Lake Aqua Splash Park – This summer the Aqua Splash Park has expanded! Jump from a 15-foot tower, climb the 15-foot overhang wall, jump on the oversized trampoline, a huge launch bag plus MANY other obstacles! This is for kids 6yrs and older, and children must be at least 3’6 to participate. Prices start at $12-$17/ person and a family pass for 2 adults and 2 kids is $50 for an hour.

Allan Beach – Just 30 minutes from Edmonton this is a fun beach to spend a summer day soaking up the sun and splashing around. Day admission fees are $10/18 & up, $5/7yrs-17yrs, & under 6 are free. 

Outdoor Waterslides – Located in the Town of Blackfalds 1.5 hours from Edmonton this outdoor area features a children’s’ water park with a slide, giant tipping buckets and lots of spray features. There is also a pool with a tots area and 2 waterslides, a 10-foot rock wall, and hot tub! A family days pass (2 adults + children) is just $19.50 and includes access to the whole facility, even the indoor play place.

Pembina River – Suggested for kids 5 and over spend the afternoon floating down the Pembina River. Shuttles, tube rentals, and life jackets are available for rent. Prices depend on the size of tube/life jacket required! View other places where you can go tubing around Alberta here

Long Island Lake – This private day use is located 90 minutes from Edmonton in Westlock County.  You will find a small playground on the beautiful beach and area to picnic and enjoy the hot summer days. The cost to get in is $5/vehicle. 

Fort Sask Lions Park & Kids Pool – The pool is free to use and is for kids 8 & under. Open Tuesday-Saturday during the summer months there are picnic tables on site, change rooms, and a park right next door with lots of green space to play at! 

Ol’MacDonald Resort – Spend the day at the beach, grab a famous cinnamon bun from the store, check out the farm and more! Located 1.5 hours South of Edmonton the cost to spend the day at the resort is $3/adult, $2/child, or $10/carload. 

Ebling Beach on Gull Lake – One of the best things about this beach is that it doesn’t get deep for a long way, making it the perfect place for younger kids to splash around. Kids can also play at the playground on the beach and as well as a cash-only concession that offers hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and more. Find this beach 2 hours south of Edmonton.
